Srilanka - A gem of a country

The Future gives us hope, but the memorable Past gives us tools to work towards the future! For this blog allow me to travel back to the summer of 2018. Being fondly familiar with British Colonial architecture, the tropical island country of Sri Lanka found a place in my heart as I stepped into its historic capital city of Colombo. Sri Lanka has been in the news recently for terror. That, I believe, is an aberration. I personally experienced a sense of inner peace that is so central to Buddhist philosophy when visiting the Emerald Isle.

We explored many UNESCO Sites, including the fortified old city of Galle, the ancient capital Anuradhapura, the ancient rock fortress Sigiriya, the prehistoric caves of Dambulla and colonial Kandy. Our village stay in the middle of paddy fields in Ulagalla, our long drives through green lands and forests, and our taste of the fresh King coconut water from a roadside stall all brought us closer to the connection with Nature that Sri Lanka has to offer.

Last but not least, I came back with a hand-picked collection of Sri-Lanka’s famous natural gem stones. What a charming rainbow of colors!

Till next time! Thanks.

Rinku.
