The Zsolnay tiles of Hungary and their use on the rooftops of many historic buildings are uniquely beautiful. The pyrogranite material makes these tiles frost- and rain-proof. The historic building (Parisi Udvar) that we stayed in Budapest features Zsolnay roof tiles. We even got an up-close look at these beautiful roof tiles!
The St. Matthias Church on the Buda Castle hill also has a beautiful pattern of Zsollnay roof tiles.
During our trip, we visited Pecs, where the original Zsolnay factory was located. This southern town of Hungary was the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010. We brought a beautiful piece of this cultural Gem back home!
Till next time. Thanks!
Rinku.
